I made my own pattern…woop!

It has been a while since I made a post to my blog. Over the past few years a few things have changed in my world. My boys aren’t so little anymore 12 and 18 now! I lost my sewing mojo 😦 I did on the other hand discover that I like going to the gym and I lost some weight but unfortunatly most of my handmade clothes became to big for me so…I donated them to the charity shop.

I did dabble a little a little during the first big UK lockdown with pattern cutting and made my own skater skirt pattern with fake braces. In fact I loved the first version so much that I made it again in tartan material 🙂

I had always wanted to try and make my own designs based on clothing that I have seen online. I had always thought ‘I can make that!’ so I finally made the leap and gave it a go. I had a lot more time on my hands during the first lockdown, it seemed the perfect time to knuckle down and give it a go.

As my weight had changed, my first action was to re-measure my body to create a new pattern black using my faithfull Craftsy video]. I then used the dart manipulation technique to create the skater skirt pattern.

The pattern pieces on the eh right are the standard skirt slopes (pattern block). The pieces on the left have the dart manipulation to make it more skater’ish.

I have quite a collection of unused fabric from over the years. I decided to use some suit type fabric that I had excess of to make my twirl (mock up) and just went for it!

The main back piece was cut normally, the front piece was placed on the fold.
